The Gold Star Family license plate is available to immediate family members (parent, spouse, sibling or child) of fallen service members as certified by the Affidavit of Relationship on the application form. To apply for the plate, you must present one of the following documents: DD-2064 D.O.D. Certificate of Death (Overseas) or a DD-1300 D.O.D. Report of Casualty. This plate allows free parking at municipal parking meters. There is no cost for this plate. You may be issued three plates within the plate class to include Gold Star Family, Gold Star Family Motorcycle, and Gold Star Family Personalized. This plate is available by mail only.

You may get a personalized version of the plate that contains letters or numbers or both and the “&” symbol. Text is limited to six characters including spaces and will be granted based on availability.

The In God We Trust license plate is available for private passenger vehicles and trucks with an empty weight of 9,000 pounds or less and a gross vehicle weight of 11,000 pounds or less. The requirements and registration fee for this plate is the same as a regular license plate. You may also get a personalized version of the plate that contains letters or numbers or both and the “&” symbol. Text is limited to six characters including spaces and will be granted based on availability. The personalized version of this plate is available by mail in only. The fee to get this plate personalized includes $30 personalization fee in addition to regular registration fee.

A portion of the special license plate fee, $40, will be placed in a Public Education: A Great Investment Fund and $34 will be distributed to the school designated for the purchase of computers for use in the classrooms. This plate is issued to light trucks no more than 5,000 lbs. gross vehicle weight. The fee for the plate is $54 every two years in addition to the registration fee.

This license plate fee is $70 every two years in addition to the regular motor vehicle registration fee. To apply for the plate, you must present a current sorority financial card or certificate of membership. A portion of the fees collected will be used for academic scholarships.

First-time applications must be handled by mail. You must certify on the application that you hold an unrevoked and unexpired amateur radio license of a renewable nature as issued by the Federal Communications Commission. The fee for the license plate is $2 plus the registration fee.

The 250th Year Anniversary Revolutionary War License Plate is available to all South Carolina residents. To apply for this plate, complete the Application for Special License Plate (MV-95). This plate is available for passenger vehicles and motorcycles. The cost for this plate is the regular registration fee. No additional fees are required.

The Boykin Spaniel Foundation license plate is available to the general public and has no special requirements. The fee is $30 every two years in addition to the regular motor vehicle registration fee. A portion of the fees collected for the plate will fund genetic research and specialty health clinics for Boykin Spaniels.

First-time applications must be handled by mail. A portion of the fees collected for this plate (based on the total number sold) goes to the South Carolina Fire Academy. You must certify that you are an active or retired member of a fire department on the application. Your Chief Officer of the Fire Unit must sign the application. The fee is $70 every two years in addition to the registration fee.

The South Carolina Equality license plate is available to all SC residents. The fee is $25 every two years in addition to the regular registration fee. Fees from the sale of the plate will be distributed to SC Equality for education and advocacy for the SC GLBT community.

The fee for the Medical University of South Carolina Children's Hospital license plate is $50 every two years in addition to the registration fee. Proceeds from the sale of this plate will be used to provide unit equipment and to support activities for families during their stay at the hospital.
