Army Distinguished Service Medal

The Army Distinguished Service Medal license plate is available to South Carolina residents who have been awarded the Army Distinguished Service Medal. You must present official documentation certifying that you have been awarded the Distinguished Service Medal for the Army along with a completed Application for Military Plate (SCDMV Form MV-37). Surviving spouse may obtain a new plate in their name if not remarried and complete the Surviving Spouse Certification on the application. This plate allows free parking at municipal parking meters. This plate is exempt from fees. You may be issued three plates within the plate class to include Army Distinguished Service Medal and Army Distinguished Service Medal Motorcycle. This plate is available by mail only.

Purple Heart

South Carolina Purple Heart license plates are available to SC residents who are Purple Heart recipients. You must complete Application for Military Plate (SCDMV Form MV-37) and must submit a Department of Defense Form DD-214, Purple Heart Citation, or a letter from the US, Regional, or County Veterans Administration certifying that you are a recipient of the Purple Heart. This plate allows free parking at municipal parking meters. There is no cost for this plate. You may be issued three plates within the plate class to include Purple Heart, Purple Heart Wheelchair, and Purple Heart Motorcycle. This plate is available by mail only.

To receive handicapped privileges you must be certified permanently handicapped by a licensed physician on the Disabled License Plate and Placard Application (SCDMV Form RG-007A)

Antique

To get an antique license plate, your current title must be surrendered and the SCDMV will issue you a new title marked Antique. The fee for a new title is $15. To qualify for an antique license plate, the automobile or motorcycle must be at least 25 years old. The vehicle is to be used in club activities, exhibits, tours, parades and similar events, but cannot be used for general transportation. When the vehicle is sold, junked, or otherwise disposed of, you must return the antique plate to an SCDMV branch. The plate costs $10.

Pearl Harbor

The Pearl Harbor license plate is available to South Carolina residents who were a member of the United States Armed Forces on December 7, 1941, were on station on December 7, 1941, during the hours of 7:55 a.m. to 9:45 a.m., Hawaii time at Pearl Harbor, the Island of Oahu, or offshore at a distance not exceeding three miles; and received an honorable discharge from the United States Armed Forces.

All applications for Pearl Harbor plates must be verified by the South Carolina State Chairman of Pearl Harbor Survivors.

The cost for the plate is the regular registration fee. This plate can be purchased for cars, motorcycles or light trucks with an empty weight of 9,000 pounds or less and a gross vehicle weight of 11,000 pounds or less. You may be issued three plates. This plate is available by mail only.

Disabled Female Veteran

This license plate is available to people who submit proper certification from the Veterans Administration. In addition to this certification, you must complete the Application for Military License Plate (SCDMV Form MV-37) and provide a letter or other documentation from the US, Regional, or County Veterans Administration certifying that you are a war time disabled veteran who is entitled to compensation for the loss of use of one or both legs or arms, has a permanent impairment of vision in both eyes to a degree as to constitute virtual blindness and is entitled to a special monthly statutory award by reason thereof, or is a South Carolina veteran classified as totally and permanently disabled due to service-connected disabilities as determined from the medical records on file with the county or US Department of Veterans Affairs.
