The US Army Reserve license plate is available to South Carolina residents who have served or currently serving active duty in the Army Reserves. This plate can be purchased for cars, motorcycles or light trucks with an empty weight of 9,000 pounds or less and a gross vehicle weight of 11,000 pounds or less. You may be issued three plates. The Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm license plate is available to South Carolina residents who have served or currently serving active duty in the US Military. The Normandy Invasion Survivor plate is available to customers wo were in the US Military and took part in the Normandy Invasion. Qualifying customers must provide official military documentation demonstrating the applicant was stationed in the European theater between June 6 to August 30, 1944. The cost for the plate is the regular registration fee. This plate can be purchased for cars, motorcycles or light trucks with an empty weight of 9,000 pounds or less and a gross vehicle weight of 11,000 pounds or less. You may be issued three plates. This plate is available by mail only.

The Female Veteran license plate is available to South Carolina residents who have served in the United States Armed Forces active or reserved components. To apply for the plate, you must present your Department of Defense Form DD-214, indicating that you were honorably discharged, along with a completed Application for Military Plate (MV-37). Only three plates within the Female Veteran plate class to include Female Veteran, Female Veteran Motorcycle and Female Veteran Wheelchair may be issued to vehicles registered in your name. The cost for this plate is the regular registration fee. This Plate is available by mail only.

To receive the handicapped privileges , you must be certified permanently handicapped by a licensed physician on the Disabled License Plate and Placard Application (SCDMV Form RG-007A).

The 250th Year Anniversary Revolutionary War License Plate is available to all South Carolina residents. To apply for this plate, complete the Application for Special License Plate (MV-95). This plate is available for passenger vehicles and motorcycles. The cost for this plate is the regular registration fee. No additional fees are required.

Disabled plates are available at any SCDMV branch. You must submit a Disabled License Plate and Placard Application (SCDMV Form RG-007A) with Section 4 Physician's Statement completed by a licensed physician. If you own a vehicle that has a license plate for a person with a disability, you must have the registration card that lists the names of all eligible people with a disability who can drive or be carried in that vehicle. When you renew your plate for a person with a disability, you will receive a new plate and registration. Plates for people who have a disability who drive motorcycles are also available. Businesses are not required to certify with a physician. However, businesses with plates for people with disabilities must carry registration cards. Business certificates will not list names of people with disabilities, but the certificate will indicate that the vehicle is entitled to park in designated parking spaces. The fee for the plate is $36 every two years. Truck fees are determined by weight of truck. Vehicles that have this plate are exempt from the payment of municipal parking meter fees (SC Code Section 56-3-1965) and are permitted to park in designated handicapped parking spaces.

First-time applications must be handled by mail using Form MV-96. The number of letters or numbers are limited to seven for motor vehicles and six for motorcycles. The only symbol you may use is" &". No symbols may be used on a motorcycle license plate. Blank spaces are counted as one letter or number. The fee is $30 plus the registration fee.

This license plate is issued to motor vehicles having no more than two permanent functional wheels in contact with the ground or with a detachable side car or trailer and having a saddle for the use of the rider. This excludes tractors.
