This license plate is available to people who submit proper certification from the Veterans Administration. In addition to this certification, you must complete the Application for Military License Plate (SCDMV Form MV-37) and provide a letter or other documentation from the US, Regional, or County Veterans Administration certifying that you are a war time disabled veteran who is entitled to compensation for the loss of use of one or both legs or arms, has a permanent impairment of vision in both eyes to a degree as to constitute virtual blindness and is entitled to a special monthly statutory award by reason thereof, or is a South Carolina veteran classified as totally and permanently disabled due to service-connected disabilities as determined from the medical records on file with the county or US Department of Veterans Affairs.

To receive handicapped privileges you must be certified permanently handicapped by a licensed physician on the Disabled License Plate and Placard Application (SCDMV Form RG-007A). There is no fee for this plate. You may be issued three plates within the plate class to include Disabled Veteran, Disabled Veteran Handicapped, and Disabled Veteran Motorcycle. This plate allows free parking at municipal parking meters. This plate is exempt from fees. You may be issued three plates within the Navy Cross plate class to include Navy Distinguished Service Cross and Navy Distinguished Service Cross Motorcycle. This plate is available by mail only.

The Operation Iraqi Freedom license plate is available to South Carolina residents who have served or currently serving active duty in the US Military. To apply, you must present official documentation certifying that you participated in Operation Iraqi Freedom from November 8, 2002 to August 31, 2010 with a completed Application for Military License Plate (SCDMV Form MV-37). The cost for the plate is the regular registration fee. This plate can be purchased for cars, motorcycles or light trucks with an empty weight of 9,000 pounds or less and a gross vehicle weight of 11,000 pounds or less. You may be issued three plates. This plate is available by mail only.

South Carolina Palmetto Cross license plates are available to SC residents who are Palmetto Cross recipients. You must complete Application for Military Plate (SCDMV Form MV-37) and must submit a Department of Defense Form DD-214, Palmetto Cross Citation, or a letter from the US, Regional, or County Veterans Administration certifying that you are a recipient of the Palmetto Cross. Surviving spouse may obtain a new plate in their name if not remarried and complete the Surviving Spouse Certification on the application. This plate allows free parking at municipal parking meters. This plate is exempt from fees. You may be issued three plates within the plate class to include Palmetto Cross and Palmetto Cross Motorcycle. This plate is available by mail only.

The Silver Star license plate is available to South Carolina residents who have been awarded the Silver Star Medal. You must present a Department of Defense Form DD-214 or other official documentation certifying that you have been awarded the Silver Star Medal along with a completed Application for Military License Plate (SCDMV Form MV-37). Surviving spouse may obtain a new plate in their name if not remarried and must complete Surviving Spouse Certification listed on application. This plate allows free parking at municipal parking meters. This plate is exempt from fees. You may obtain 3 plates within the plate class to include Silver Star and Silver Star Motorcycle. This plate is available by mail only.
